This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Wednesday July 17th, morning
update sponsored in part by the Wild Birds Unlimited Stores in Vancouver
and North Vancouver.

The feature bird is LONG-TAILED DUCK

Sightings for Tuesday, July 16

Lily Point in Point Roberts Washington had the following species:
2 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS, 2 CASPIAN TERNS, 3 PIGEON GUILLEMOTS
and 1 LONG-TAILED DUCK.

Monday, July 15

At the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty Compensation Lagoon were 3 BLACK
OYSTERCATCHERS including 1 juvenile and 74 CASPIAN TERNS.

In Surrey in a yard near 144th Street and 16th Ave was a male ANNA'S
HUMMINGBIRD.

At Jericho Park in the Pond were 3 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS.

Sunday, July 14

At the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty in the Compensation Lagoon on the
evening hightide was an adult breeding plumaged FRANKLIN'S GULL. Also
present were 61
CASPIAN TERNS.

At Beach Grove Lagoon there were 4 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 1 LONG-
BILLED DOWITCHER and 30 LEAST SANDPIPERS.

In a late report a male AMERICAN KESTREL was seen near Splah Down
Park in Tsawwassen.

At the base of the Roberts Bank Coal Port Jetty were 200 WESTERN
SANDPIPERS, 1 LEAST SANDPIPER and 1 WHIMBREL.

At Colony Farm birds of note were 1 EASTERN KINGBIRD, 1 AMERICAN
BITTERN and 1 MERLIN.

At Deer Lake Park a GREEN HERON was reported.

Saturday, July 13

At the foot of 88th Street in Boundary Bay on the rising high tide
were 6 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 150 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 12 Dowitchers and 1
RED KNOT in full breeding plumage. Also present were 100s of peeps.

At Musqueum Park in Vancouver were a pair of BARRED OWLS.

At the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty were 20 BLACK TURNSTONES.

Nearby at Beach Grove Lagoon were 300 WESTERN SANDPIPERS,
8 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS and 50 LEAST SANDPIPERS.

Friday, July 12

At the East 22nd Avenue Sky Train Station in Vancouver were 2 COMMON
NIGHTHAWKS.
