Greetings pelagic birders!

I have started a Yahoo Groups list as a monthly newsletter. The focus
is pelagic birds and birding opportunities from Alaska to California.
The contents for the first issue are:

Welcome
Rare sightings: May-June 2002
Seawatches: May-June 2002
Recent Bird Guide trip results
Upcoming Bird Guide trips
West Coast pelagic links
Archives

In addition to birds seen on organized pelagic trips it includes rare
birds seen on fishing trips, research cruises, and even from shore.
Here's an example:

Rare sightings: May-June 2002

Seabird researcher David Ainley submitted documentation to the Oregon
Bird Records Committee of a JUAN FERNANDEZ PETREL 50 miles off
Brookings, Oregon on June 7. This will be a first North American
record if accepted. A reported Juan Fernandez Petrel off Westport,
Washington on September 14, 1990 was not accepted by the Washington
records committee.
Two or 3 MANX SHEARWATERS were seen 2 miles off Grays Harbor,
Washington on May 18. One MANX SHEARWATER was 50 miles off Brookings,
Oregon on June 7. This was the 25th record for Oregon. Most records
are for the past 3 years. There are no accepted records yet, but a
number of reports are making their way through the records committee
now.
An astounding 4 THICK-BILLED MURRES were seen from a boat off Eureka,
California on May 12.
