Subject: [TEXBIRDS] tern Using bait

George and I have watched many terns for many years. Today we were out with
my daughter and grandson and friends in South Bay fishing. They had just
flown in on a small four seater Piper from Austin and were delighting being
on South Padre. We enjoyed watching the Sandwich Terns follow us all the way
from the marina into S. Bay diving within inches of the boat. The boys
thought it was quite an aero dynamic bird after feeling like birds themselves
on their flight down here. They put on such a spectacular show, that they
will always remember Sandwich Terns. So when a Royal Tern came near the boat
while we were fishing , vocalizing, it caught everyone's attention. As we
gazed up at this magnificent bird hovering over us , it suddendly upchucked a
small peice of fish letting it drop into the water near us and then we
watched as a fish came up to grab the peice of fish, the tern dove and Voila!
instant meal. Everyone exclaimed with amazement at what they had just seen.
Bird brains.... Cool! Hope to see some of you next week for the Brownsville
Birding Festival.
