To whomever put the starlings on Spencer Island to test their breeding
success there:
Congratulations on the conclusion of an overwhelmingly successful
test. Starlings on Spencer Island now outnumber all other individual bird
species by a factor of 500 to 1. You can come and pick up your test subjects
(and their gazillion progeny) now.
As long as there are going to be humans that like to phuque (homophone
-- sounds like that other word but does not have an offensive meaning) with
nature, why can't one of them breed a raptor that feeds exclusively on
starlings? The breeder could even give it a cat (or human) mentality so that
the Starling Hawk doesn't just kill to eat but also kills for fun.
Okay, enough sarcasm. Sorry. I went birding on Spencer Island this
morning. I was excited to see the Eastern Kingbirds there but appalled and
shocked by the sheer number of young starlings.
