Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday July 25. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

Post-breeding dispersals and early migrations are now being reported. Large
flocks of VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS are being seen and several individuals BANK
SWALLOWS are now west of the Cascades.

Among the large number of shorebirds at Bandon July 24 were 50 RUDDY
TURNSTONES. South of Waldport July 21 a flock of SANDERLINGS, a SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPER and an early SURFBIRD were seen. A MOCKINGBIRD was along the
Nature Trail at Yaquina Bay July 18. On July 20 a feeding flock at the South
Jetty of the Columbia River included 220 BROWN PELICANS, 700 DOUBLE-CRESTED
CORMORANTS, and a few SOOTY SHEARWATERS. Also in the area were 435 CASPIAN
TERNS.

On July 21 an adult and a juvenile WESTERN SCRUB-JAY were near Birkenfeld in
the Columbia County Coast Range.

On July 18 three WHITE PELICANS were on Sauvie Island off Coon Point. A
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was near Virginia Lake on the Island July 21. At the
Delta Park Ponds in North Portland July 23 were a SOLITARY SANDPIPER, a
WILSON'S PHALAROPE, and 2 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS. On July 24 a female MOUNTAIN
BLUEBIRD was on top of Larch Mountain east of Portland.

On July 22 a SOLITARY SANDPIPER and two BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS were near
Brownsville. Up to a dozen adult and juvenile BLACK-NECKED STILTS are now at
Fern Ridge Reservoir Adult and young BLACK TERNS are also being seen there.
Two WHITE PELICANS are still being seen there.

On July 24 a breeding plumaged BLACK TURNSTONE was at the Lost Creek
Reservoir along the Rogue River near Shady Cove.

A female BROAD-TAILED HUMMINGBIRD has been seen all week in Bend. A female
PINE GROSBEAK was seen July 18 west of Sunriver.

Scrub-Jays nested in Prineville again this year.
