For the Columbia Gorge area I would recommend: Wildflowers of the Columbia River Gorge" by Russ Jolley and the "Magnificent Gateway" an out of print geology book by the late Richard Alden. This last book explains the formations and deposits of the Gorge with a mile by mile descriptive tour route.
