The mammal book I wanted to recommend to Michael Hobbs is "Mammals of the PNW, from the Coast to the High Cascades" by Chris Maser; Oregon State University Press, 1998. It's much more than just a field guide! 406 pages, $27 in paperback at the UW Bookstore.
