Hi Tweeters,

Someone asked if anyone had seen any of these and I had two in my yard this
morning, apparently the offspring of the pair I've been seeing here this
Spring. They have white bands over the eyes and orange chests - just like
the immature male in Stokes. The house finch pair have fledged a male and
female, making short shrift of my window feeder seed along with a wren
family. Also saw a black-capped chickadee fledgling yesterday - very tiny
and cute! The pair of Steller's Jays is still here as are the crows and the
goldfinch. Quite a busy day today though mostly cloudy.

Non-bird news: The resident Aplodontia must have quite a burrow system now,
judging from the amount of "kick out" below the front of its burrow - it was
up by the back door the other night when I let my Aussie/Rottie out about
midnight - he saw it before I did and went right after it - suddenly I saw
Aplodontia butt literally flying down the yard - turns out they're not THAT
slow - luckily my dog was on his Flexilead so Aplo was able to escape when
he got to the end of it - just why I don't let him out at night off-lead as
he's black and I can't see him in the dark, or who he's run into. Aplo must
still be eating bird seed as it's digging around where I put the seed on the
ground, not tunnels, but mounds of some sort and cut branches nearby - hmm.
