This morning Jim Preske, Kritin Stewart and myself spent a couple hours
birding at McMicken Island State Park. It was pretty quiet but we did have
a couple interesting highlights. On our way to the island we observed two
very pretty foxes playing on the beach at Harstine Point. That was quite
a treat. The other highlight was observing Pigeon Guillemots feeding,
calling/whistling, and flying into their nests on McMicken Island. We
think we may have seen at least three nest holes, but there could be more
as there were at least a dozen birds in the area. A list of other species
sighted follows below. Our next survey is Sunday, October 6 from 8am to
noon at Jarrell Cove and Harstine Island State Parks. Anyone is more than
welcome to join us and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for
