Hi Tweeters,
Had a male BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK at my sunflower feeder this morning. Am
still seeing the female MANDARIN DUCK in the evenings. She looks much
smaller now, sans eggs apparently, but isn't nesting in the box I built for
her. Must be nearby somewhere. There is a pond full of frogs down the
street so she may have liked that in the vicinity. June 15 will be 28 days
from when I last saw the male so will start looking for chicks after that.
There's a large new burrow near my stream, at the base of a large tree. Any
ideas what that might be? The opening is pretty big - probably 8" or more
side to side. Still have the HOUSE FINCH and BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEE pairs
coming to my window feeder which I enjoy because I can't see the yard from
where I work at the computer. Still have the resident CROW pair patrolling
the whole scene. Lost a squirrel last week - think he must have fallen
from a tree as he had no external injuries. Two left. Hope you're all
enjoying our first taste of Summer!
