Can we give it a rest about the "trampled" area near and around the
Gnatcatcher site at Hardy Canyon??
This is a none issue. Hundreds of birders flocked to see this bird over a
course of a few days. Most were very respectful. (A few, most likely very,
very few, were not.) This area normally sustains little impact from birders.
So folks, believe it or not, by the end of June or after a few good rains,
you will never know anyone was there. All shall be well again in the Hardy
Canyon.
It amazes me all the fuss over this site and I have never read a single
complaint about one of the true threats in the Wenas campground and
especially the surrounding riparian areas. COWS!! Yes folks, COWS!! These
nasty beast may be cute but they are hell on the environment. And unlike a
little grass trampled by a few birders, cow damage is far reaching. This
year they weren't around the Wenas campground area because of the logging
going on( another threat), so it wasn't as obvious.
So please let this "trampled" issue rest and maybe all you folks that are so
concerned can take up the cause of removing COWS from our sensitive birding
areas to fill the void.
Love and Good Birding,
Katie
