Randy Hill and I looked for the Philadelphia Vireo this morning. We could not find it. We looked for about 5 hours. We did see a warbling vireo. This is a neat riparian zone. We had allot of birds including a Empid that I feel is a Alder flycatcher. I am not very familiar with their calls but I do know what a willow sounds like. This bird caught my attention right away because I could not place it. The bird looked like a willow but in my words was saying "wee-peet" with the second note accented. The song was not forceful or loud when I was on the opposite side of the creek and viewed the bird, later, I could at times see it sing but only detect a partial song. There were 4 willow flycatchers singing nearby so I had excellent comparison. I use a digital voice recorder to take notes on it and attempted to get a song recording. This was futile with the wind and a recording device not made for such recordings. Photos I took are poor in quality due to the contrast problems. The bird is in the same patch that the vireo was reported. I plan on going back tomorrow hoping for better photo condition and no wind.
