As the rainclouds seemed to break up late in the evening yesterday (June 7),
a single BLACK SWIFT flew over, we don't often see them here at Tiny's Land
despite our proximity to a known nesting site (on Mt. Pilchuck). Nothing of
note otherwise, we do have a couple nice flocks of RED CROSSBILLS in the
area, not so happy however to see flocks of 4-6 Starlings on our lawn, like
Dennis' these are all juv. birds. Luckily, this seems to be the only time
of year we regularly get them. Migration seems to have mostly concluded,
but in June there is always the prospect of a late bird or unexpected
visitor. As in past years, we do enjoy nightly visits at dusk by bats (1-2
or more rarely 4 at a time, species unknown).
