Good Evening, Tweeters:

This afternoon my husband and I spent about 3 hours just sitting on our back
porch, filming and photographing everything interesting that came within our
focus. What amazing luck we had in our endeavor! Following each rain shower,
we would see a flurry of activity. Here is a list of the birds we got, either
on tape or film, or both.

10 Cedar Waxwings, grouped in the top of a tree
2 Bullock's Orioles (male & female) who dropped by like clockwork about every
20 minutes or so to liberate nectar from our "red hot poker" blooms.
2 Rufous Hummingbirds, also enjoying the nectar. (We got spectacular slo-mo
video of these guys!)
2 Spotted Towhees
2 Chestnut-backed Chickadees (Zippy little guys!)
2 Song Sparrows
2 Blue-winged Teals (Male & Female) Our last shot of the afternoon, and a new
addition to our "Lake List."
1 molting Mallard Drake, looking extremely gnarly

Mammals include:

1 seed robbing Squirrel
1 Muskrat, who was constantly going to and fro, being extremely industrious

Other birds we saw, but did not film or photograph include:

2 Red-Winged Blackbirds (male)
4 Canada Geese (including our injured LG)
Mallards, numerous
1 Glaucous-winged Gull
2 Red-breasted Sapsuckers, male and female were taking turns gathering sap to
take to their nest
Northern Flickers (heard, not seen)
Tree Swallows/Violet-Green Swallows, numerous
Barn Swallows, numerous
1 Mature Bald Eagle
1 Osprey
2 Great Blue Herons

All in all, it was a banner day for birdwatching on Pine Lake.
