This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Monday June 10th, evening update,
sponsored in part by the Wild Birds Unlimited stores in Vancouver and North
Vancouver.

Featured bird is MARBLED GODWIT.

Sightings for Monday, June 10

It appears the DICKCISSEL has left the area. It has not been seen since
Saturday June 8. The homeowner volunteered to phone the Alert it the event
of it's reappearance.

A MARBLED GODWIT and 16 WHIMBREL were seen in a plowed field at the end of
Colbrook Rd. at Mudbay.

An adult NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen near the junction of Hwys 91 & 10.

The 2 Beach Grove Park resident GREAT-HORNED OWLS were again reported.

Seven LAZULI BUNTINGS were reported from Colony Farm. Three, a male &
female were at the east end of Colony Farm Rd. near the boarded up
buildings. Another male was in blackberry thickets on the dike heading
south to the Maryhill Bypass. Three males were seen near the old pig barns
at the far south end of the road paralleling the railway tracks.

Sunday, June 9

Although the DICKCISSEL was not seen today there was an AMERICAN REDSTART in
the yard to lessen the disappointment.

The YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was again seen at the first bend of Neaves Rd.
southwest from the concrete road barriers.

Near Victoria the SNOWY EGRET was again seen on Craigflower Creek west of
the Helmckin Road Bridge. It has been seen both east and west of the bridge,
but mostly west of the bridge along View Royal Park. There are a few access
points to the creek from View Royal Park. For further details call the

A BLACK TERN was observed over the outer pond at Iona. Also here was a
COMMON NIGHTHAWK.

A GREEN HERON was seen flying over the Burnaby Lake rowing course.

A pair of PURPLE MARTINS were seen tending one of the nest boxes at Blackie
Spit.

On the John Ireland's regular Sunday morning walk at Reifel the following
birds were seen: 17 WILSON'S PHALAROPE, an AMERICAN BITTERN, BARN &
GREAT-HORNED OWLS, and a PEREGRINE FALCON.

Three LAZULI BUNTINGS were reported from Colony Farm.

Saturday June 8

A male DICKCISSEL in breeding plumage was observed for the second day on the
Sunshine Coast.

The YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was present at the bend of Neaves Rd. south of
Grant Narrows RP. Also at this location were 3 EASTERN KINGBIRDS, a BULLOCK'
S ORIOLE, CHIPPING SPARROW and 2 GRAY CATBIRDS.

At Grant Narrows were 2 CHIPPING SPARROWS with one being seen frequently on
the trail 100m or so along the nature dike. Also seen at the Narrows were 2
EASTERN KINGBIRDS, 5 MUTE SWANS, 1 TRUMPETER SWAN, and 10 AMERICAN PIPITS in
over flight.

Four TURKEY VULTURES were seen on the ground near a farm on the west side of
Neaves Road north of McNeill Rd. with another seen over Neaves bend.

At Maplewood CA were 8 PURPLE MARTINS.

Two SANDHILL CRANES were seen near the Mansion on Boundary Bay.

Out in ABBOTSFORD was a singing LAZULI BUNTING 1 ? km south of Vye St. on
Whatcom Rd. Also near Thickson & Wells Line Road was a singing HOUSE WREN.
