looks an awful lot like a finch to me. Could it be a young purple finch?
They're bigger than house finches aren't they. And the coloring in the
photo seems raspberry-like, more like a purple finch.

Regarding the bird information I posted yesterday, asking for your help,
there is now a photo online that you can view.

The general consensus seems to be either a Western Tanager juvenile, or
second spring House Finch. I considered both of these, but rejected the
first mainly because we've not yet seen any adult tanagers, the bill seems
to me more finch-like, and he is definitely streaked, but no black. I
rejected the second because we often have house finches who visit the
pokers, and this little guy is bigger. Still, I admit it could be ... I
would appreciate any comments, questions and opinions. See the photo at:
