This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Thursday June 13th, evening update,

Rare bird alert for a BAR-TAILED GODWIT.

Other featured birds are YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT and AMERICAN REDSTART.

Sightings for Thursday, June 13

A mystery Godwit seen for several days on the mud flats off the Roberts Bank
Jetty was positively identified today as a BAR-TAILED GODWIT. It was
associating with Dowitchers. Also reported from this area were 4
LONG-BILLED CURLEWS.

An AMERICAN REDSTART, either a female or first year male was behind the
nursery area at Maplewood CA.

The YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was seen at its usual location at the first bend of
the road along Neaves Road. Also at this location were 2 EASTERN KINGBIRDS,
and a GRAY CATBIRD.

Five COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were seen over the west end of Burnaby Lake.

Two SANDHILL CRANES were reported from Derby Reach Park and another 2 were
seen flying up the Pitt River near the Lougheed Hwy Bridge over the Pitt
River.

Wednesday, June 12

A GREAT EGRET was seen near 208th and Allard Cres. In Langley.

The now confirmed BAR-TAILED GODWIT was seen on the mud flats off the
Roberts Bank Jetty. At the compensation lagoon on the Tsawwassen Jetty were
5 WHIMBREL and 3 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS, 2 adults and a chick.

Reported from Beach Grove Lagoon was a YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD.

At the Neaves Rd. bend area was the YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT along with a
WESTERN KINGBIRD, which was seen sparing with an EASTERN KINGBIRD, a GREEN
HERON, 2 GRAY CATBIRDS and 2 AMERICAN BITTERNS.

Tuesday, June 11

The YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was seen at its usual location at the first bend of
the road along Neaves Road. Also at this location were 3 EASTERN KINGBIRDS,
2 GRAY CATBIRDS, and a BULLOCK'S ORIOLE.

Unusual at Colony Farm RP were 2 PURPLE MARTINS seen at the pond west of the
Shaughnessy St. parking area. Also reported were a BULLOCK'S ORIOLE and an
AMERICAN BITTERN.

On a walk along the Boundary Bay Dike between 104th & 112th was an EASTERN
KINGBIRD and at the foot of 112th a LONG-BILLED CURLEW.

Seen at the Tsawwassen Jetty compensation lagoon were 7 WHIMBREL and 2 BLACK
OYSTERCATCHERS.
