I heard a Common Nighthawk outside last night at about 9:30, I raced outside
(excusing myself from my own birthday party) but couldn't get a visual.
Still the best present I got all day. County first for me! That's one
great thing about this heat, you have to leave all the windows open...I
wonder what I'm missing all winter? Also had a Caspian Tern calling
overhead at midnight, which I thought was strange.
It's no Great-Gray Owl, but I needed something on those WOS trip attenders!

Heard, and then saw, a common nighthawk this evening at our place just north
of Stanwood. I have not seen many in the last many years, so was very happy
with this sighting.
