The latest newsletter of the Hawaii Audubon Society had an interesting
bit about radio tagging the Pacific Golden Plover (Koloa to Hawaiians).
A radio tagged bird last seen at Hickam Air Force Base on Oahu was
picked up again at King Salmon, Alaska. Traveled over the open sea a
distance of roughly 2,600 miles in 70 hours. Comes to about 37 miles per
hour for 70 hours without a rest. Puff1 Puff! Previous record was 90
hours. Amazing conversion of chemical energy to mechanical energy. Eh
what?
