Tweets - there were NINE of us today on a too-gorgeous morning - sunny, warm,
and windless. It was a typical summerish day; quite a bit to see and hear, but
not a huge species count.

Highlights:
Green Heron Several nice looks
Osprey At least 2
Red-breasted Nuthatch Again, heard along trail, thrice!
Red-eyed Vireo Many, visible, perhaps 5+
WESTERN KINGBIRD Flycatching from Scotts Broom in E. Meadow
Common Yellowthroat Notably many "quality views"

Young of the following species were noted (only hatch-year birds listed):
Canada Goose
Mallard
Wood Duck (2 clutches)
Rufous Hummingbird (baby in nest, hatched before 6/18)
Tree Swallow
Black-capped Chickadee
Bushtit (family or more at RC)
Golden-crowned Kinglet (family near weir)
American Robin
Savannah Sparrow
Brown-headed Cowbird (Song Sparrow host)
Red-winged Blackbird
House Finch

One RED-EYED VIREO sang from an exposed perch at the very top of a very large
cottonwood for several minutes. This is not something I've seen before.

Over 100 CANADA GEESE were present in the slough and on the lake. Some were
obvious birds of the year (esp. in lower slough).

We saw two NORTHEN FLICKER. In some kind of strange statistical abberation, we
had never recorded the species for this week of the year. Now, we have NOFL
reports for all weeks.

Surprisingly, no GADWALL or BALD EAGLE, which we usually see this time of year.
Also, DOWNY WOODPECKER didn't make the list, though I heard/saw one a
couple of times),

Brian Bell had a COOPER'S HAWK on his way out this morning (he left a bit
early), so the day's total was 49 species. The year total remains at 119
species.
