This may be too fanciful. It may also not be enough of a "story" book.
There's really no narrative to speak of. But, we - and our two year old -
love it, so I'll put it out there anyway. It's called Birds, by Brian
Wildsmith. It's old, 1960s, but I was recently able to get it in paperback.

It's got lovely (though perhaps slightly fanciful) pictures, and is just a
listing of birds and their group names (I'm now drawing a blank on what the
real name for this is). for example, and our son's favorite: "a walk of
snipe". Also, "a congregation of plover."

hope that gives you a sense for it.
