This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Saturday June 22nd, sponsored in part
by the Wild Birds Unlimited stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Rare bird alert for a possible BLACK PHOEBE and near Boston Bar a
CONNECTICUT WARBLER.

Sightings for Saturday, June 22

A CONNECTICUT WARBLER was seen and heard 14 km north of Boston Bar in the
Fraser Canyon. The bird was in a large field just before the airport.

A bird thought to be a BLACK PHOEBE was seen at Colony Farm between the 2nd
& 3rd hydro towers.

There are 2 breeding pairs of LEAST FLYCATCHERS being seen and heard at
Cheam Lake Wetlands in Chilliwack. The birds have been present in the area
for over a month.

The YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was reported at its usual location at the Neaves
Rd. bend. It was seen and heard from the dike about 200m south of the dike
access point. This is also the location of a very vocal GRAY CATBIRD.

Two SANDHILL CRANE were reported from Barnston Island.

Friday, June 21

Four GREEN HERONS, 3 adults & a juvenile were seen near the Ambleside
display pond.

Wednesday, June 19

Reported from Colony Farm RP were an AMERICAN BITTERN, an EASTERN KINGBIRD,
a BULLOCK'S ORIOLE and 8 LAZULI BUNTINGS. Three males were seen near the
old pig barns in the extreme south-west portion of the park. A male and
female were seen west of the abandon buildings on Colony Farm Rd. Another 2
males were seen along the slough on the Coquitlam side and a final male was
seen on the Port Coquitlam side along the trail at the south end of the park
near the line of cottonwoods.

Tuesday, June 18

A WHIMBREL was observed on the mud flats south of the Roberts Bank Jetty.

At Reifel there was one juvenile SANDHILL CRANE. Two SANDHILL CRANES were
reported from Elgin Park in Surrey.

Monday, June 17

A LAZULI BUNTING was reported from Colony Farm RP.

Sunday, June 16

Fourteen SANDHILL CRANES were observed in formation flying west over
Vancouver's False Creek. Another 5 SANDHILL'S were seen at Elgin Park.

Two adult and 3 juvenile GREAT-HORNED OWLS were reported from Deas Island
RP.

A GRAY CATBIRD was seen along the nature dike at Grant Narrows.
