Subject: Great Gray Owl, Walla Walla County


This evening we went with Mike and MerryLynn Denny, Roger and Ginger
Shoemake, and Larry and Jacque Goodhew up Biscuit Ridge road south east of
Dixie, WA to check out the reported Great Gray Owl family that was located
9.8 miles from highway 12. At 8.4 miles the Shoemakes spotted two immature
Grt Gray Owls that we watched for about an hour. Then after 2100 hrs we
went on to the 9.8 mile area and saw one large owl and heard one or two
immature Great Gray Owls in the open area below the dead tree. Then as we
were returning to Dixie, we saw what appeared to be an adult Great Gray Owl
at approx. mile 8.1. So, there appears to be two families of Great Gray
Owls now residing in Walla Walla County.

Also, at 9.4 miles (just as one breaks into the meadow land from the timber)
one Grasshopper Sparrow was heard singing at 2100 hrs. Just south on
Biscuit Ridge rd at mile 0.2 was a family of Great Horned Owls.
