Hi Tweeters,

One thing that I have not seen in this discussion of optics in carryon is
their causing weight problems. Had this problem when we traveled to Germany
in March for my brother-in-laws fiftieth wedding anniversary, where Lufthansa
enforced an 8 Kg limit (about 20 lbs). Fortunately, I was not traveling with
my spotting scope. Even removing the bins to be worn on to the plane left us
a little over, had to fight both directions to keep the luggage from being
checked. Here at LAX, told that the weight limit was an FAA rule, but if it
is it was not enforced on our trip to the ABA convention in Duluth, when I
did have my spotting scope. So this may only be a problem when traveling
overseas or just an incident of the German propensity to enforce the rules.

Great Birding and FInd that Next Lifer,
