My wife and I watched a male BOBCAT for about an hour Tuesday
evening (June 25) as it sat on our lawn looking like a very contented
house cat. It stayed sitting in one spot half dozing and occasionally
closing it's eyes, the only time it perked up was when it seemed to be
concentrating on sounds from the other side of the patch of shrubbery. We
looked out the front window to checked if we could see what it was
listening to and saw a RACCOON under the feeders not more than twenty
five feet from the cat.
Having fed the wildlife here at our home on Mt. Pleasant in
Western Skamania County for the last thirty years we have built up a
large number of corn fed rabbits that attract the predators. This is our
second sighting of a Bobcat on the lawn, we also have had one sighting of
a Cougar on the property.
And since this is mainly a bird list I will report that the
RED-EYED VIREOS are quite vocal in the alder forest.
