This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Friday June 28th, evening update
sponsored in part by the Wild Birds Unlimited stores in Vancouver and North
Vancouver.

Rare bird alert for 2 out of town rarities. A BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER
in Victoria and a YELLOW-THROATED VIREO seen Monday at the Vaseaux Lake
Nature Reserve in the Okanagan.

Featured bird is YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT

Sightings for Friday, June 28

Reported today but seen on Monday by a visiting British birder with
experience birding in southern Ontario observed a YELLOW-THROATED VIREO at
the Vaseaux Lake Nature Reserve which is south of Okanagan Falls in the
Okanagan.

In Victoria BLACK THROATED BLUE WARBLER was seen briefly at the corner of
Blanchard and Finlayson in Victoria. For updates on this bird phone the

A male YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was seen near the intersection of the Mary
Hill Bypass and United Blvd.

At Colony Farm RP there were 3 male LAZULI BUNTING seen near the boarded up
buildings on Colony Farm Rd.

The YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was seen and heard at the Neaves Rd. bend. Also
here were 2 GRAY CATBIRDS and a GREEN HERON.

An AMERICAN KESTREL was reported near the intersection of Hwy #17 and 52nd
St. in Tsawwassen.

Thursday, June 27

On the weekly Bunting survey at Colony Farm RP, 9 male LAZULI BUNTINGS were
recorded. All birds appear to be habituating blackberry brambles. Three
were near the old pig barns in the far SW portion of the park. Five were
seen along Colony Farm Rd. some near the boarded up buildings west of the
community gardens. A single bird was seen along the trail at the south end
of the park on the Port Coquitlam side running from the dike to Shaughnessey
St. Also in this area were 2 BULLOCK'S ORIOLES.

Seen in over flight near Burnaby's Lougheed Mall were 10 AMERICAN PIPITS.

In a late report 7 WHIMBREL and a MARBLED GODWIT were observed at Blackie
Spit.

June 25 & 26

No reports

Monday, June 24

Three BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS, 2 adults and a juvenile, were seen at the
compensation lagoon on the Tsawwassen Jetty. Also here were 3 WHIMBREL.

Sunday, June 23

The YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was reported from its now usual location at the
bend on Neaves Rd. Also here were 2 GRAY CATBIRDS.

A WHIMBREL was seen at the compensation lagoon on the Tsawwassen Jetty.
