Hey tweets, I've said it often before, so it will be no surprise to hear
that once again, the Fill has delivered. Whenever I need serenity, a break
from the stresses of everyday life, an uplifting of a sometimes frayed
spirit, I go to the Fill and let its wonders replenish my soul. I listen to
the tall grass swishing in the breeze, the quiet lapping of the lake waves
against the shore, the raucous arguing of Bullock's Orioles. No kidding.
The berries on the bushes at the east entrance to the Fill are ripe and
attracting birds from all over. In fact, they are too numerous to count -
hordes of house finches, robins, starlings, as expected. But also great
quantities of cedar waxwings and today the orioles. I saw two but I heard
more. The two I saw are spectacularly orange, almost like they are emitting
light themselves. You can find them flying between the large cottonwoods at
the parking lot and the berry bushes along Wahkiakum Trail.
Also of note, the cinnamon teals are still on the main pond, along with a
ruddy duck. The loosestrife at the north end of the main pond is a hurtin'
dude, but the loosestrife along the western shore is unfortunately looking
better. I may have to call for a pulling party later in the summer, if the
beetles and weevils don't get cracking. - Connie, Seattle
