I think speculation about this bunting's origin based on feather color are
tenuous at best. A Painted Butning in Seattle this time of year might well
be having trouble finding a "normal" diet. Wild birds also show more
variation in color, due to diet or genetics, than field guides suggest.
What about the range in variation of House Finch colors?
