Northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Friday, Mar 11 (2002). This hotline,

Some good birds were in the Lewiston, ID / Clarkston, WA valley...

On 2 Mar, an adult ICELAND GULL and a second year THAYER'S GULL were at
Swallows Park, Clarkston, Asotin Co WA according to Ken Knittle and Mike and
MerryLynn Denny. They were near northernmost parking area. On 4 Mar, Joe
Lipar couldn't find either of those gulls, but did find a first-year
GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL. Swallow's Park is along the Snake River south of
Clarkston along WA 129.

A SWAMP SPARRW was near Chief Timothy SP west of Clarkston on 2 Mar
according to Ken Knittle and Mike and MerryLynn Denny. This bird was in the
same area as the WESTERN SCRUB-JAY, although the jay was not found that day.
Al Winter found the SWAMP SPARROW again on 3 Mar, but the jay was still
missing... This area is just east of Chief Timothy SP lagoon. To reach the
spot, a good landmark is the small subdivision off Silcott Hills Road on
the south side of US 12. Park at the green gate closest to Silcott Hills
Road and walk just a bit west. The Scrub-Jay was in and around the bramble
there. The bird has been observed in other areas nearby, and has proven to
be secretive at times, so be diligent and patient in your search. WA DeLorme

At Mann Lake east of Lewiston, Nez Perce Co ID on 4 Mar, Joe Lipar found a
DUNLIN and 3
GREATER SCAUP. From Thain in Lewiston, head east on Powers Avenue to the
reservoir. ID DeLorme 54, A-1.

Two HOARY REDPOLLS are visiting the feeders of Terry and Christine Gray in
Genesee, Latah Co ID. They were seen 8 Mar. The Gray's live at 550 North
Fir.

A COMMON CRACKLE was found 9 Mar east of Yakima, Yakima Co WA by Denny
Granstrand. To get to the spot from I-82 east of Yakima, take Exit 34 (Nob
Hill Blvd/WA 24) off I-82. Cross the Yakima River, make a right at the 1st
light (Birchfield Road). Go south 1.1 mile to the beginning of an area of
pasture and corrals. Check these first, then the fields to the west and
continue south to the little farm with corrals with llamas and horses. The
grackle is in a flock 50-100 blackbirds and starlings. Scott Ray found the
bird again on 10 Mar. WA DeLorme 51, D-5.

It is reached by taking SR-24 east from I-82 (Exit 34).
An adult THAYER'S GULL was on the city beach in Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai Co
ID on 10 Mar according to Matthew Moskwik. The beach is on the east end of
Northwest Blvd adjacent to the Coeur d'Alene Resort.

A third-winter WESTERN GULL and a probably GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL were near
Sandpoint, Bonner Co ID on 10 Mar according to Lisa Hardy. The Western Gull
was on the City Beach in downtown Sandpoint, and the GWGU was seen along
Sunnyside Road east of Sandpoint. Sunnside heads south off ID 200 at
milepost 35, a couple miles east of the jct of US 95 and ID 200. ID DeLorme
