Tweets - Spring has not sprung. The salmonberry are trying to hold back from
blooming - their buds have swollen to immense size, but to open now would be
(literally) fruitless. So they wait, ready to burst, as soon as the weather
warms. I wait too, and just as ready to burst.

Four of us braved the icy wind, but fortunately the rain held off. Things were
pretty quiet with the blow, but I had some luck during my drivethrough (7:00 -
7:30), and Brian Bell and I found a few birds on our way out near the
maintenance sheds.

Highlights:

Western Meadowlark 3 birds in E. Meadow at 7:00
Bald Eagle Sub-adult near NE entrance at 7:00
Lincoln's Sparrow 2 - one along road, one in Pea Patch
Downy Woodpecker 3 birds, one a bright white and black female
WOOD DUCK Gorgeous drake at mouth of slough
Virginia Rail 3-4 birds responded to clap from boardwalk
Yellow-rumped Warbler 2 Audubon's males near maintenance sheds

Also, Saturday I had several Townsend's Warbler and Yellow-rumped Warbler in
the parking lot closest to the windmill.

For the day, 45 species. The Wood Duck brings the year total to 76.

STARTING NEXT WEEK, MARCH 20, MY STARTING TIME CHANGES TO 7:00 AM. I was
supposed to switch this week, but forgot. For now, the day will remain
Wednesday, though I'm thinking of changing to Thursday soon.
