Birding from the driver's seat on the SR-520 floating bridge across
Lake Washington usually ain't much, so a couple of sightings this
morning about 8:00 are worth sharing. I saw at least eight
Red-necked Grebes along the north side of the bridge, all in full
breeding plumage. One pair was engaged in courtship behavior, with
the male displaying. East of Foster Island, a Cliff Swallow was
flying over the shallows near the bridge where this species has long
maintained a substantial nesting colony.
