Tweets - I forgot to post a report from Wednesday. It was just Brian Bell and
I, starting at 7:00 a.m., and the weather was only so-so. The wind was cold,
and the mist turn to mizzle turned to drizzle. Just after we got home it
snowed, so it could have been worse. My toes were cold, though.

Still, we managed a good species count, and some highlights:

Western Grebe 2 well out on lake
Bald Eagle Sub-adult well out on lake
Ring-necked Pheasant Daft male (see below)
Violet-green Swallow 75-100 well out on lake
Winter Wren Late sighting for Marymoor, at Rowing Club
Brown Creeper 1 at Rowing Club
Lincoln's Sparrow 2
Fox Sparrow Absolulely abundant, at least 30-35 seen
Western Meadowlark 5, with at least 1 singing, East Meadow
Purple Finch 1 female north of east end of boardwalk

The RING-NECKED PHEASANT was at the "compost piles", and seemed enamored of the
little 6-wheel dump tractor that was being dumped there. Everytime the guy
would try to back up the tractor, he had to make sure the pheasant was out of
the way, as it kept running back and forth within feet of the thing. When we
walked up, though, the pheasant left.

For MARSH WREN, our previous late date in the spring was March 7, 2001. So
today's represented a considerably later last sighting of winter.

The FOX SPARROW outnumbered SONG SPARROW for the first 2/3 of the loop. They
were everywhere, even in spots where we don't usually see them. Many were
singing.

For the day, 47 species. For the week (Sunday-Saturday, 4 visits) 53 species.
After 12 complete weeks, still 76 species.
