You are right about h. sparrows being so cautious. They are very hard to
trap sometimes depending on the trap etc. But, they aren't very fast and a
sharpy or merlin, even a kestrel could easily take one. I've seen a few very
nice kills by a sharpy and cooper's on house sparrows. They are usually
reluctent to flush unless they know the hawk is inexperienced or not trying.
This is a big mistake with the accipiters. Even a merlin sometimes.
