While collecting water samples in West Seattle and on Vashon Island today I
saw at least 14 harlequin ducks between Alki and Lincoln Park. Eleven (7
males, 4 females) were among boulders just south of Alki's Constellation
Park, near the apartments that are poised over the water. The baby orca was
in the ferry lanes from Fauntleroy to Vashon, and two Dall porpoise were
near Lincoln Park. About 50 brant were also along the south beach at Alki.
Pigeon guillemots seemed to be calling from everywhere!
