Tweets - it was almost a nice day today. There was some sun, especially early,
though the clouds moved in and the wind picked up a bit after 8:30. It wasn't
TOO cold, and there are definite signs of spring. The Salmonberry has just
begun blooming, as are several non-native floweres, trees and shrubs. Among
natives, it's really just the Indian Plum (Oso berry), Salmonberry, Red Alder,
and some of the willows blooming yet.

The bird list shows some signs of spring too:

Virginia Rail Heard 1 from boardwalk just *before* I
clapped
Common Snipe 1 at weir
Rufous Hummingbird 3-4 males, two doing J display flights
Tree Swallow Many - a few over slough, more over lake.
Violet-green Swallow Many, mostly over slough and meadows
Savannah Sparrow About 8-10, some singing
Western Meadowlark 3 in East Meadow

After Brian and Robin left, I made a swing through the Mansion area, adding:

Red-breasted Sapsucker 1 near windmill
Chestnut-backed Chickadee Many
Yellow-rumped Warbler 1 male Audubon's race

Still lots of "winter" birds, including D.C. CORMORANT, GREEN-WINGED TEAL,
RING-NECKED DUCK, BUFFLEHEAD, RUBY-CROWNED and GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, FOX
SPARROW, and GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW.

For the day, 51 species. For the year, the hummer and Tree Swallow bring the
total to 78 species.
