Hi folks,

When I first moved here nearly 19 years ago, we put up a screech owl box in
back, maybe 20+ feet outside the fence - it is heavily wooded here, but was
open to the yard. We enjoyed screech owls for a few short years, then the
barred owls appeared and, occasionally, a great horned was heard in the
distance. I have had no screech owls for ca. ten years and I miss the
little family's calling back and forth in the pre-dawn hours - once there
were four young, all vocal! Now, I have resident, more or less, barred
owls and the single young occasionally sits near the woodshed and is always
harrassed by the jays or crows when it's in the vicinity.

Re the screech owl house, grey squirrels took it over after the owls left
and have lived there ever since.

Cheers, Diann
