This is the Vancouver Natural History Societies Bird Alert for Saturday,
March 30th, evening update sponsored in part by the Wild Birds Unlimited
stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

The featured birds are YELLOW-BILLED LOON, AMERICAN TREE SPARROW & OSPREY.

Before the sightings an announcement. On the weekend of April 12-14th
the Brant Festival, an annual event, will be held in the Qualicum Beach and
Parksville area of Vancouver Island. For anyone interested in attending
there is excellent information available on the events web site. Look under
http://www.brantfestival.bc.ca/. Hopefully many people from the Lower
Mainland will attend.

Sightings for Saturday, March 30th

On a VNHS field trip this morning to the De Boville Slough/Minnekhada RP
area were an AMERICAN TREE SPARROW, & an Osprey. The sparrow was about ? of
the way out the north side of the slough from Cedar Drive. The Osprey was on
a piling out in the Pitt River.
A YELLOW-BILLED LOON was seen near the Grebe Islets off the West Vancouver
shoreline.

Four COOPER'S HAWKS were seen soaring over NE Coquitlam.

A PEREGRINE FALCON was observed taking a Rock Dove near Gilmore & Hastings
in Burnaby.

At the Reifel Refuge were 2 adult GREAT HORNED OWLS with possibly 2 chicks,
and 2 NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH.

RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS and YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS were reported from numerous
locations in the Lower Mainland over the past several days.

Friday, March 29

A COMMON REDPOLL was reported from Reifel.

A CRESTED MYNA was seen on 1st near the Maynard's building.

A NORTHERN GOSHAWK made a brief appearance in the 3800 blk of Cambridge in
north Burnaby.

Thursday, March 28

A YELLOW-BILLED LOON in alternate plumage was observed off Point Roberts
Lighthouse Park.

Two BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS were seen near the base of the Tsawwassen Jetty.

A COMMON REDPOLL was seen near the entrance too the Reifel Refuge.

Wednesday, March 27th

3 GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES were observed at Burnaby Mountain Park.
