Bottle Beach was alive with birds this afternoon:
5000+ short-billed dowitchers
15,000+ western sandpipers
3-400+ dunlin
5 ruddy turnstones
4 greater yellowlegs
6 lesser yellowlegs (flying east)
40+ black-bellied plover
1 sanderling
1 snowy plover
1 whimbrel
30 semi-palmated plovers
4 turkey vultures
handful of least sandpipers
Westport Jetty was pretty active as well:
200+ black-legged kittiwakes - the boat dredging the channel had at
least 180 birds feeding in it's wake.
12 brown pelicans
2 rock sandpipers - summer plumage is pretty cool
30 surfbirds (500+ last saturday)
45 black turnstones
1 male rufous hummingbird
1 savannah sparrow
230 greater white-fronted geese (flying north)
Big numbers of loons flying south - mostly pacifics.
