Columbia Estuary Report - 5/2/2002

Drizzly with wind from the west....

I spent most of the morning around Youngs Bay and the
South Jetty of the Columbia River. 31 BLACK-LEGGED
KITTIWAKES were on the exposed mudflat of Trestle Bay,
seen from the parking lot "D" wildlife bunker.
58 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE were along the western
edge of Trestle Bay.

Two WANDERING TATTLERS were on the Jetty at parking
lot "C". A female LONG-TAILED DUCK was in the surf and
easily seen from the viewing platform. Visibility was
not very good, but loons (mostly PACIFIC LOONS) were
going by, nearshore, at 10-15/min during my very brief
10min stop before the next squall hit.
