Hi all,
Made my weekly trip to Poiny-No-Point and surrounds this
morning in cool and windy conditions. At PNP, I had 7 Orange-crowned
Warblers, 50+ American Pipits, 6 Savannah Sparrows, 3 White-crowned Sparrows
and I Golden-crowned Sparrow (down from the 8-10 present all winter), 45
Western Grebes, 15 Brant, 9 Red-brested Mergansers, 3 Marbled Murrelets, 10+
Rhinocerous Auklets, and both Barn and Tree Swallows. Met up with Vic Nelson
near the lighthouse and he had similar bird sightings. Checking Buck Lake
next, a boy scout campout was going on so the birds were scattered at best.
Finally at roads end (northend of the penninsula) I saw that the Osprey have
returned to their nest just east and high above the beach there. They have
been successful raising young there for the past several years as I have
tried to monitored their progress whenever I am up there.
Good birding,
Doug Watkins
