Jim Pruske and I birded Luhr Beach and the refuge today. Here are some
of our sightings.
Luhr Beach
1 Spotted Sandpiper
2 Common Loons
1 Earred Grebe
7 Black Bellied Plovers mixed in with 1000+ peeps
16 Purple Martins
Several White Winged Scoters mixed with Surf Scoters
Yellow Warbler singing at the Nisqually Center
2 Wood Ducks at the Nisqually Center
Warbling Vireo at the Nisqually River trail.
1 light colored Solitary Sandpiper in the back pond within the boardwalk
Good numbers of Least Sandpiper and Western Sandpiper in the front
Willow Ponds.
4 Greater White Fronted Geese in the ponds by the twin barns
1 American Bittern along the Center Trail
1 Virginia Rail along the Center Trail
In the pond at the corner of the Center Trail and McAllister Creek
8 Cinnamon Teal
1 Blue Winged Teal
1 Blue Winged X Cinnamon Teal Hybred (Blue Winged head on Cinnamon body)
2 Sora at the pond in the NW corner
5 Greater Yellowlegs at the NW corner of the refuge
1 Red Throated Loon at the reach where the gulls roost
