Two items:

First, my wife and I visited the Gray's Harbor area this weekend and one
sighting was particularly worth sharing. For those of you driving Ocosta
Third St. across from Bottle Beach to look over the flooded fields, watch for
the Virginia Rail crossing the street. While we were stopped in the street
scanning the fields and looking at the Western and Least Sandpipers,
Long-billed Dowitchers, Dunlin and Snipe, we watched a Virginia Rail cross
the street at least six times. It was getting food on the west side and
apparently going to a nest on the east with tasty morsels, well for a
Virginia Rail, to feed young (or a mate?). Watch for this when you are there!

Second, is there a regular bird species count conducted at Magnuson Park? I
am interested in participating when I am in town. If you are aware of the
time and day/date could you e-mail me directly? Thank you.

Good Birding,
Bruce Jones
