Tweeters,

This morning, Jason Paulios and I explored a couple of locations in south
Thurston Co. The best birds of the day were a flock of 5 WHIMBRELS that
flushed from a large pasture on Meadows Rd (just off Old Highway 99 and
Prather Road) south of Grand Mound. This is the exact same location where
the Gyrfalcon was seen repeatedly in March. The birds gave good looks as
they flew past and we heard their distinctive call.

We also spent a couple of hours at Scatter Creek Wildlife Area a few miles
to the north. It was our first time there and both of us were impressed
with variety of forest birds. Some of the highlights were:

Turkey Vulture - 3-4
Red-breasted Sapsucker - 2, including one hammering on the metal top of
powerline pole
Pacific-slope Flyctcher - 1-2 heard
Cassin's Vireo - one seen well and several heard
Warbling Vireo - 1-2 heard
Western Scrub Jay - 2
Northern Rough-winged Swallow - 1
Yellow Warbler - 1
Orange-crowned Warbler - several
Black-throated Gray Warbler - 2 heard
Common Yellowthroat - common
Western Tanager - 1
Chipping Sparrow - 4 seen, others heard
Savannah Sparrow - abundant
Golden-crowned Sparrow - 1
Bullock's Oriole - 1
Purple Finch - common
