Today's "All Things Considered" ran this story:

NPR's Wade Goodwyn reports how the spring migration of birds along
the Texas coast brings out young and old to compete for spotting the
most species. It's the world's longest birding competition in the
state with the most species of birds. Teams grouped by age arm
themselves with binoculars, bird guides, mosquito spray, an ear for
song, and a willingness to get by on very little sleep.
