Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday May 9. If you have anything to add call Harry

Among the swarms of migrants during the week were large colorful flocks
of WESTERN TANAGERS and YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS; a few LAZULI BUNTINGS
were also seen. The first main flight of SWAINSON'S THRUSHES arrived May
7.

Male CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRDS were seen May 2 at McMinnville and May 8 in
the Sellwood section of Portland. A female CALLIOPE was near the E.E.
Wilson SWA May 8.

On May 3 a BREWER'S SPARROW was at Flores Lake, south of Bandon. Two late
ROCK SANDPIPERS were with SURFBIRDS and both turnstones May 4 at Seal
Rocks Wayside south of Newport. At least 770 WHIMBREL were in the fields
near the Tillamook Airport May 7. A bright SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was at
the Nehalem Sewage Ponds May 8.

A PECTORAL SANDPIPER was at the Pellet Plant meadow on Sauvie Island May
8. On May 2 a LONG-BILLED CURLEW was near Marine Drive and 185th. Street
in North Portland. It left soon after but a good sized flock of
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS moved in.

On May 3 a PECTORAL SANDPIPER and two BLACK-NECKED STILTS were along
Farmer Road east of Baskett Slough NWR. On May 5 three GRAY FLYCATCHERS
were at Detroit Flats in the Cascades east of Salem. One or two were in
Eugene May 7. On May 5 a PECTORAL and a BAIRD'S SANDPIPER were in the
Rogue Valley at the Kirtland Road Sewage Ponds.

A WHITE-FACED IBIS was at the Redmond Sewage Ponds May 7. A LONG-EARED
OWL is nesting again at Page Springs Campground in the same tree as last
spring.
