Thursday, May 9, 2002, 9:12 pm Hi, this is Tom Aversa reporting for a
couple of days, May 8th and 9th, birding down through Pacific County.
Yesterday, the 8th, we had some birds at Bay Center, two AMERICAN
AVOCETS on a rising tide. Also two ROSS's GEESE, adults. They were with
about 57 WHITE FRONTS and three little CANADA GEESE that match the
description for ALEUTIAN GEESE - neck-banded bird, one of them. About 10
RUDDY TURNSTONES in that area also. Going further south to Middle Nemah
River, there was two PECTORAL SANDPIPERS. And down at Leadbetter, there
was very good numbers of shorebirds, including probably about 700 KNOTS.
Today, returning, unfortunately most of those birds were gone. Didn't
find the ROSS's GEESE or the AVOCETS coming back through Bay Center.
Returning through Grays Harbor County, there were 60 BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVERS, 90 WHIMBREL, and 17 RUDDY TURNSTONES. In plowed fields, also in
south Elma, about 63 more WHIMBREL.
