And what a lovely Seattle spring Saturday it was! Went
for a walk with my wife, and took our new binoculars.
Saw a PIED-BILLED GREBE on her nest of reeds near the
shore, and a pair of Red-Eared slider turtles resting
on the bank not fr away. Saw a pair of Beavers just as
we started to cross the main bridge between the
islands. On Foster, we saw a MARSH WREN, a couple of
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, and a ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD who
looked to be eating insects, or gathering moss for a
nest under a branch of a tree.

We also got to observe a male WESTERN TANAGER for 5
minutes or so, right next to the freeway, on the south
side. Soon spotted a VARIED THRUSH amongst the ROBINS,
and a few male SPOTTED TOWHEE'S displaying. There was
a BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD my wife glimpsed in a tree, and
finally, a male HOODED MERGANSER on the water amongst
all of the ducks. Simply splendid.

I love spring!
