I may have finally found the answer to a question that has been bothering me
-- but only slightly -- for several years. Several of us decided to bird
Hellcat Swamp, near Newburryport, MA, one Saturday in May a few years ago.
Our first problem was that the officials had decided to close the whole
Parker River Refuge for a bike race. On the third Saturday in May???? We
finally convinced them that in order to maintain good relations with about
10% of the birders in New England who were there that day that a shuttle bus
to Hellcat would be a great idea. It was Warbler Heaven! People were
reporting 15, 16, 17 species and more. They were everywhere, except for
the Wilson's. The only place anyone could locate that particular species was
in a tree right over the men's room! We DID get some strange stares from
some of the gentlemen as they emerged to find 20 people with binoculars
staring in the general direction of where they had just been. :-)

BTW, has anyone else seen the huge sign as you enter the Parker River Refuge
which lists the activities that are prohibited there? I don't know, but
some of them seem a little far fetched. Maybe I need psychiatric help, but
I had an urge to break three of their rules at one time by drinking a beer
while flying a kite while wearing no clothes. I resisted the urge.
