Dear Scott (and Tweeters),

Oh my . . . is there anything you can do?? I would say the best thing is to
enjoy your wonderful backyard, crows and all. It's kind of like the world
of humans, diversity is rampant, and is also what makes the world - at
times - a wonderful place to live. When a part of this diversity is
suppressed, what we end up with is, for example, what's going on in the
Middle East and other areas.

I don't mean to preach or lecture - crows are with us, they are a wonderful
part of our Northwest ecology. I also live in a very wooded area.
Resident/nesting birds include a pair of crows, some Steller's jays,
robins, woodpeckers, juncos, warblers, and most of the common woodland
species. Most of them visit the yard for food: peanuts, birdseed, suet, and
water. I hear a ruckus now and then in the ravine behind my house, but that
usually means the corvids are harrassing the barred owls or fighting among
themselves. Sure, a certain amount of nest robbing, murder, theivery, and
some such go on, but I am seldom witness. It's not nice to have to watch
one species kill another, but it's a fact of life.

I'll get off my soapbox and say, just in enjoy your backyard at this
wonderful time of year. Study the crows; they are really neat birds!

Cheers, Diann
