Hey tweets, I want to thank all of you who wrote letters to the editor of
the Daily and who sent e-mails to the administration of the UW voicing your
support for the Fill to be left as a nature reserve. I was deeply touched
by how many of you took time from your busy days to write.

I do believe the administration when they say that the Fill is not at risk
for now. I also believe it when they tell me that they intend to keep the
Fill a nature reserve forever.

Having been in politics, however, I also know that "forever" for
politicians has a way of lasting a substantially shorter time than Webster
says it should. I think it's a good idea to make sure that people in power
know that there is a committed constituency out here who are prepared to
speak up for the Fill, because we love it and because it is such a unique
place.

I also believe that officials try to their best to satisfy conflicting
demands all the time, so the more they understand a given situation, the
better. Therefore, I have offered to take university officials around on a
Fill walk any time they have a free hour or so, on the theory that if they
see how wonderful this place is, they will become just as committed to
preserving it as we are.

If any of you out in tweetersville know of anyone else who might benefit
from such a tour, let me know. - Connie, Seattle
